Starting a Norwegian branch of a foreign company (NUF)

Registering a Norwegian-registered foreign company (NUF)
- Register the Norwegian branch of the foreign company by completing and signing 'Paper form for Norwegian-registered foreign company (NUF)'.

- Enclose the certificate of registration from the official registration authority in the home country and other obligatory enclosures.

- Anyone who is to perform a role in an NUF who does not already have a Norwegian national ID number or d-number must also complete an application for a d-number.

- Send the forms and enclosures (all enclosures must generally be in Norwegian, but Swedish, Danish and English will also be accepted) to the postal address printed on the form.
You will be notified once the registration process is complete.

NUFs can have a separate name/business name in Norway or they can use the same name/business name as in their home country.
Duty and right to register
All foreign companies that carry out commercial activity in Norway are obliged to register in the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities and in the Register of Business Enterprises. Foreign enterprises that do not operate in Norway have a right to register in the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities if they require a Norwegian organisation number.

Option to submit via E-mail
New branch offices that are to be registered in the Register of Business Enterprises can submit the registration form via www.brreg.no. The processing of registrations submitted via E-mail will commence within 10 working days after it has been received. If you need to apply for a d-number, the application must be sent by regular post.

How much does it cost?
The fee for registering in The Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities is NOK 3,146.
The registration fee for registering in The Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities and The Register of Business Enterprises is NOK 2,656 if you submit the form by E-mail. If you submit by regular post, the registration fee is NOK 3,205.
The fee for subsequent additional registration in the Register of Business Enterprises is NOK 2,120.
When the registration process is completed the branch (the NUF) gets a Norwegian organisation number.
